Proviz & World Bicycle Relief

Following an amazing meeting with Johan Bruyneel www.johanbruyneel.com who is Lance Armstrong’s coach, I told Johan that PROVIZ’s mission is to become the most well known and respected brand of hi visibility cycling clothing and accessories and we hope to make a difference by providing clothing and accessories that make people safer on the roads, which will therefore encourage more people to take up cycling. We also discussed that as well as making a difference on the roads, we hoped the success of the brand would be able to have a wider impact. Johan then told me all about World Bicycle Relief, a charity he is a Board Member of, who provide bicycles to help change the lives of people in poorer countries and I was inspired by what they did. World Bicycle Relief is a unique charity who truly changes the lives of thousands of people and I hope that PROVIZ can contribute to what they do.

PROVIZ has pledged to donate the following amounts to World Bicycle Relief (WBR) for EVERY product you purchase.

A PRODUCT PURCHASED BETWEEN £1.00 - £14.99   =   £1.00 DONATED TO WBR

A PRODUCT PURCHASED BETWEEN £15.00 - £29.99 =   £1.50 DONATED TO WBR

A PRODUCT PURCHASED BETWEEN £30.00 - £44.99 =   £2.00 DONATED TO WBR

A PRODUCT PURCHASED BETWEEN £45.00 - £69.99 =   £2.50 DONATED TO WBR

E.g. you buy a Rucksack for £42.99 and Bike Lights for £14.99 – you will be donating a total of £2.00 + £1.00 which is a total of £3.00. This all adds up and every penny of this will go towards providing better accessibility for many less privileged people.

1 BIKE COSTS £90 - WHICH ON AVERAGE CHANGES THE LIVES OF 5 PEOPLE

World Bicycle Relief

World Bicycle Relief was founded by SRAM Corporation in 2005 in response to the Indian Ocean Tsunami. World Bicycle Relief partnered with aid organisations on the ground in Sri Lanka to distribute over 24,000 bicycles to aid the rebuilding of lives by providing access to education and healthcare and reconnecting workers to their livelihood.

After the success of this disaster relief program in Sri Lanka, World Bicycle Relief was approached by aid organisations working in Sub-Saharan Africa to assist with volunteer healthcare programs in Zambia where 40% of the population was suffering the effects of HIV/AIDS. In partnership with local aid organisations, World Bicycle Relief worked to provide 23,000 specially designed, locally assembled, rugged bicycles to healthcare workers treating HIV/AIDS patients. They also trained local field mechanics to build, maintain and repair bicycles. This program in Zambia led to their work in microfinance, education, social enterprise and field mechanics training programs across Africa

Compared to walking, bicycles represent an enormous leap in productivity and access to healthcare, education and economic development opportunities. The simple, sustainable nature of bicycles empowers individuals, their families and their communities.

WBR accomplish their mission by:

Working with suppliers to improve bicycle design while ensuring all changes are culturally appropriate

Enhancing distribution with local sourcing, manufacturing or assembly whenever possible

Partnering with existing non-governmental organisations and government and community based organisations

Training mechanics in maintenance and repair while strengthening the existing supply of spare parts

Measuring and evaluating the impact of bicycles and communicating the results to improve programs and increase awareness.

I am sure you agree with me that World Bicycle Relief is an amazing and unique charity and I would like to thank for all your support for PROVIZ and World Bicycle Relief. We will keep you updated through our newsletter and our blog of our progress and post some pictures of the bikes we purchase as a result of our donations.
